Mary Ellen Cross

You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving

Mimi

January, 2001

A fitting tribute to Mimi was written by her 'Aunt Gunny,' a talented syndicated writer, in the local Byron Gazette.  To read her two-part article click on the "Things I Think About" Logo.

Mimi passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2001.  She had undergone surgery for the removal of a pheochromocytoma tumor at Emory Hospital in Atlanta on January 30.  During the operation, Mimi went into cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated by her team of doctors.  The resuscitation took too long and Mimi never regained consciousness.  She remained at Emory until February 13.  We can only commend the doctors and staff at Emory for the care and attentiveness shown to Mary and her family during that time.  On February 13 she was transferred to Southwestern Christian Hospice in Union City, just south of Atlanta. At Southwestern, although non-responsive, she was treated with loving care by the staff.  Again, our heart-felt appreciation goes to the wonderful staff and many volunteers that make the Southwestern Christian Hospice possible.  Mary Ellen Cross was buried at Parkway Memorial Gardens on a rainy Saturday attended by her sisters, husband and daughter, grandchildren and the many, many friends who came to express their love and respect.
